The Different Types of Hazmat Suits

There are professions which involve working with hazardous substances which cannot be handled without protective gear. Researchers and cleaning specialists are some of the groups of people who generally wear a hazmat suit while working. These suits are designed to serve varied needs including providing protection from liquids, solids and gases.

Hazmat suits are classified according to different levels, denoting the kind of protection they accord to the wearer. Level A suits are also known as the total containment suits, because they provide protection against all types of toxic substances. Level B suits provide protection against solid and liquid chemical, but they do not provide protection against vapors or gases. Level C suits are specially designed for use by firefighters and they are usually accompanied by gas masks and respirators. Level D suits are worn by general workers like mechanics, and they are generally meant to protect the clothes worn underneath them.
